Guest Blog: The Importance of a Mother’s Blessing

Donna Tadych, a close friend and the director of Heartsync for Texas was kind enough to contribute the following blog on a Mother’s Blessing. Her words impart great hope for new and young mothers.

The art of blessing our children is one that has largely been lost in modern culture. No matter how old or young they are, it’s never too late to learn how to bless our children. Whether your child is still in the womb or has children of their own, our children need our blessing.

Blessed to Be a Blessing

One of the earliest blessings recorded in Scripture occurs when God blessed Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3, “And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” It’s a powerful message of God’s love for His children.

In each instance of biblical parental blessings, a child’s identity, purpose, and calling is affirmed through meaningful touch and words communicating the child’s value, declarations of a good future, and the promise of the parent to do everything in their power to help the child reach their full God-given potential.

Why We Bless

Today, the parental blessing is one of the most significant and powerful ways we can pass on God’s love to our children. Negative voices and worldly perspectives will bombard our children throughout their lives. The blessing is one way to offset messages attacking our children’s identity and calling.

Through blessing our children, we provide the necessary foundation of truth they can draw on for the rest of their lives. When the world argues they are not enough, that they should be different than who God made them to be, or are not lovable, they will remember the truth of God’s word spoken over them.

Earlier this year, I wrote two blogs for M46 on how fathers can practically bless their children. This Mother’s Day, I’ve written several blessings specifically for mothers to pray over their physical or spiritual children from conception to the early years. As a mother, I want to bless you today to step into your role as mother to bless your children. You can never bless your children enough!

Blessings,

Donna

The Mother’s Blessing at Conception

My dear tiny precious one,

What a joy to discover you are hidden inside of me to grow and develop into the person God created you to be. You are a gift from the Lord and I receive you as a gift to be treasured and cherished. God knew you before you were conceived and now here you are. You are known and loved and welcomed. I welcome you into my body and my heart.

I bless all of your unique design and purpose. I bless you from my mommy’s heart to experience love from the very start. I sing a song of celebration over you. Listen even now to my voice that welcomes you. I celebrate every part of you. I bless you to be and to become all God has planned for you. I bless you and love you and sing songs of joy over you because you are made in God’s image to be honored and valued. I welcome you my dear one… I welcome you with all my heart!

The Mother’s Blessing During Pregnancy

Oh my dear little one,

You are a thousand miracles happening everyday inside of me. Your design is so amazing. God is knitting you together in my womb in such a special way. You are unique and one of a kind. God made you to be you and I am so glad He did. You are growing and developing in the safety of my womb. This is your place to be safe to become you in every way.

I bless you to grow strong in this hidden place. I bless you to receive love and joy as I treasure you in this secret place. I bless you to know that my thoughts are toward you even as God’s are. I bless you to be formed and fashioned and knit together as my body nurtures and supplies all of your needs to grow and develop. I bless you to rest, wiggle around, hiccup, and kick and enjoy this time in my womb because I am enjoying holding you so close to my heart. I bless you with peace, His Shalom, to surround you like a shield even as my body holds you securely. I bless you to listen to my songs of love over you as I get to know all about you from the things He reveals to me during this time you are held so close. I bless you my dear little one… I bless you with the safety and security of His love and mine.

The Mother’s Blessing at Birth

Oh my dear bundle of joy,

You are here in my arms and I am so glad to see you face-to-face. I have looked forward to this moment all of these many months. It is a joy and blessing to hear your voice and hold your tiny little hand. Your cute little toes are the best. You are so beautifully and wonderfully made. You are a masterpiece created by God and I so treasure you. I am so grateful to be your mommy.

I bless you with confidence to know you will be cared for and nurtured. I bless you with freedom to rest and receive. I bless you with a name that has meaning and purpose. I bless you with belonging because you are welcomed into our family. I bless you with joy as you look into my welcoming eyes that adore you already. You don’t have to do anything to be loved and accepted by me. I bless you with peace to be at ease because you are safe and can be content. I bless you to snuggle near my heart and continue to hear my heartbeat and feel my embrace. I bless you to receive all that you need to grow and develop as my body continues to supply your needs. I bless you to be still and know my voice and His, too. I bless you my dear bundle of joy… I bless you with a song of love as I sing over you the song of who you are.

The Mother’s Blessing for Early Childhood

Oh my amazing one full of wonder,

Every day is such a gift to watch you grow. You are wanted and fully accepted by me and by God. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Your wonder is a gift and I bless you with the freedom to ask all the questions that come up in your heart and mind. I bless you with freedom to explore. I bless you with the confidence and safety to try new things even if you fail. Failures happen and it is okay. Keep trying so you can learn and grow. You don’t have to be perfect or perform for my love or God’s love. I bless you with confidence that our love is stable and unconditional because He is the source of my love. I have received it from Him and I freely give it to you. I bless you with adventures. I bless you with an active and vivid imagination that is consecrated to God. I bless you with the ability to dream and discover all the things you want to be. I bless you with joy and laughter that is overflowing and contagious.

May every day be a gift you unwrap as it unfolds. You will go through so many transitions in these years. I bless you with perseverance and resilience to be bold and courageous and keep going. I bless you to be you in all of the uniqueness that God made you to be. I like who you are and I am cheering for you. I bless you my dear one full of wonder… I bless you with confidence that you can trust and rely on my love and presence and His, too, each and every day because you are never alone.
